Zdenka Badovinac is a curator and critic. Since 1993 she is the director of Moderna Galerija in Ljubljana. Processes of the reinterpretation of history in the various avant-garde traditions of the 20th and 21st centuries form a focus of her curatorial and journalistic work.
Body and the East – from the 1960s to the present (1998) and Arteast 2000+ (1998/2000 Ljubljana) as one of the first programmatic exhibitions of Eastern European art, were important projects in this context. NSK followed in 2015: Capital to Capital – The Event of the Final Decade of Yugoslavia (2015-2017 Ljubljana, Eindhoven, Madrid).
Also in 2017, she curated the NSK State Pavillion with Charles Esche at the 57th Venice Biennale, which re-discussed issues of territory, citizenship and identity in times of migration and European fragmentation processes.
