Manaf Halbouni

Artist Manaf Halbouni is taking a public stance for peace, freedom, and humanity as he is erecting his temporary sculpture „Monument“ on Dresden’s Neumarkt, infront of the world-famous Frauenkirche. The installation will be opened within the context of the art festival „Am Fluss/ At the River“ and Dresden’s annual commemoration of the victims of war an terror. –

Opening on 7th February at 1 pm with an address by the Lord mayor of Dresden, Dirk Hilbert

Introductory remarks: Pastor Sebastian Feydt, Frauenkirche Foundation and Christiane Mennicke-Schwarz, Director of Kunsthaus Dresden

    With the sculpture Monument that is being installed at Neumarkt square as part of the commemoration of victims of war and violence, artist Manaf Halbouni takes a stand for peace, freedom and humanity.

    Manaf Halbouni’s Monument refers to the current situation in Syria. With the image of the erected busses in front of Frauenkirche, the artist creates a link between the situation of of people in the Middle East and in Europe: The suffering and unspeakable losses but also the hope for reconstruction and peace.

    Is that Art? Citizen forum on the art projects „Monument“ and „Lampedusa 361“

    Das Kulturhauptstadtbüro der Landeshauptstadt Dresden lädt zum konstruktiven Dialog über die beiden umstrittenen Kunstprojekte „Monument“ und „Lampedusa 361“. Bürgerforum im Lichthof des Verkehrsmuseums statt (Augustusstraße 1, Neumarkt). Der Eintritt ist kostenlos.

     

    Die für die Kulturhauptstadtbewerbung zuständige Bürgermeisterin, Annekatrin Klepsch: „In Dresden wird gerade intensiv über Kunst diskutiert. Darüber freuen wir uns. Die Kulturhauptstadtbewerbung kann dafür einen Rahmen bieten. Anbrüllen und Auspfeifen bringt uns nicht weiter. Das Bürgerforum ist ein Angebot, unterschiedliche Meinungen auszutauschen und auch auszuhalten. Alle Dresdnerinnen und Dresdner lade ich herzlich ein, sich daran zu beteiligen.“
