Exhibition about the NSU Complex
An exhibition of contemporary art responding to the effects of racist violence and rightwing extremist terrorism, exemplified by the NSU (National Socialist Underground) Complex. In cooperation with Kunsthaus Dresden.
The exhibition Offener Prozess – Trial Pending investigates the effects of racist and rightwing extremist violence as exemplified by the National Socialist Underground (NSU) Complex. The NSU Complex has yet to be fully processed by German society. The exhibition takes (East) Germany reality, particularly in Saxony, as a point of departure for telling the history of the NSU Complex, in which stories of migration, structural and institutional racism, the continuities of rightwing extremist and racist violence and resistance against it play a large role.
The artistic works in the exhibition, which have been presented all over Germany since 2021 and now are being shown for the first time in Dresden, investigate the real lives of so-called guest workers and contract workers, stories of migration, everyday life in Germany, rightwing extremist violence and quotidian racism. Contributions by activist initiatives pay tribute to the victims of this violence and are the loud voices of those who are in resistance against this violence.
Guided by the principle of „living remembrance“, the Offener Prozess – Trial Pending exhibition focuses on marginalized viewpoints – more often than not, the stories of the NSU Complex are dominant and central in media narratives. The exhibition is a call to resistance and to action. Listening is conceived as political practice and remembrance as an open and active process.
The complex events of the NSU trial will be made accessible for broader audiences through the exhibits, a methodological handbook, a multi-lingual outreach team and an onsite accompanying program.
