A performance commemorating the 8th of May on the Dresdner Rivershore

THANK YOU ALL – IT WAS A WONDERFUL DAY!

There is a photo documentation of the action at all three sites which we publish within the next days!

******************************************************************************************

We kindly invite you to meet us at a safe distance and with a wonderful spring weather:

Tomorrow, Saturday,  May 9th we will be moving along the Dresden Rivershore on the occasion of the end of Second World War 75 years ago. The performance takes place between 2 – 4 o‘ clock close to Augustbrigde, Albertbridge and Blaues Wunder.

The appreciation for 75 years of peace and the commemorating the anniversary of the end of the Second World War and thus of the National Socialist period in Dresden is a central message of this performance.

The performance with 17 rolling angel sculptures made of white concrete by the Norwegian-Danish artist Marit Benthe Norheim will be presented under the title ROLLING ANGELS. Mit sicherem Abstand (At a safe distance) simultaneously on both banks of the Elbe at the three historical bridges, Augustusbrücke, Albertbrücke and Blaues Wunder.

The performance stands for a reassessment of closeness and empathy that in times of the Corona pandemic preoccupies people all over the world. Various mythologies and religions share angels or guardian spirits as a positive motif and moral authority – Judaism, Islam, Christianity, and also Buddhism are familiar with them. The sculptures remind us and also stand for a diverse and open society.

All bridges in Dresden, except for Blaues Wunder, were destroyed by German troops shortly before the end of the war and rebuilt after the war. Today, the bridges can also be regarded as symbols of the connectedness of the urban community.

The view back to history and the significance of solidarity among humans in the world are constantly reassessed – hopefully from a safe distance. In the multiple sense of the words, also the angels are on the road – ‚at a safe distance‘.
